2006 Tribal Elections: The Sound of Opportunity Knocking For the first time in recent memory the Puyallup People have the golden opportunity to make a historical change. Today, we finally have the power to elect tribal leaders that actually believe in open and fair government that will represent everyone! Time is at hand for us as members of the Puyallup Nation to choose new leadership. This year, this election, each and every vote will count!
For the first time in our history, in the upcoming election:
- Full Circle of the Puyallup Nation invites every candidate and their supporters to gather in open meetings to discuss the issues.
- We want full participation from everyone seeking office.
- All tribal members will be invited.
- We are developing a list of questions for candidates.
- Their answers will be posted on the PuyallupTribalNews.com web site
- Every voting member will have a chance to make real comparisons and informed choices.
- We will hold a series of forums on issues such as ports, gaming, fisheries, youth, elder care, and other important issues.
- Regional experts will be there to inform and answer questions.
- We invite all candidates to share and listen.
- Full Circle volunteers are ready to throw every effort and resource to supporting the candidates who can bring positive changes to our people.
- Any candidate is eligible for support from Full Circle.
- Decisions on support are based on candidate responses to Full Circle questions.
In our recent Tribal Survey, the question was asked: What are the biggest challenges facing the Puyallup Tribe? “Tribal Unity” was the number one answer. It is with unity that we can solve the many troublesome issues that confront us all.
Our tribe has many amazing and talented leaders, but we are to often divided, unconnected and unsupportive of each other. We cannot thrive in a society of “family versus family”. It is time for us to let go of that dysfunctional past and unite for the future.
It is the goal of Full Circle for everyone to have an opportunity to vote their hearts, a vote they know will help us grow physically, mentally and spiritually as a Sovereign Nation.
