Tribal Council Members Violate and Waive the Tribal Laws to Benefit Each Other
    By Chester Earl

    March 2, 2006

    Letter to the Editor,

My concern is about all the "INDIANS should do this, INDIANS shouldn't do that." ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! I am sick and tired of reading of HOW WRONG the INDIANS are, and HOW BAD they are!

It is one thing to critique the smoke shops, school naming and fishing or whaling rights. But, to be judged on the rights of the implemented COUNTY Smoking Bans in the casino?

Let us be, inside our own reservations, with our own rules, guidelines, in our own way! When you come on to the reservation, wether it is the PUYALLUP, QUILEUTE, MUCKLESHOOT, TULALIP, OR ANY other Indian Nation, remember that we have chose our own laws for a reason. We do not need to follow ever little rule that society makes!

Come on folks, lets look at the big picture! REALLY- there are other races in our society - like the

ASIANS, SPANISH-MEXICAN, NORWEGIAN, IRISH, AFRICAN AMERICAN, etc.

How many of those groups of people donate thousands, NO hundreds of thousands to the city & county

    Charities?

    1. For the Social events, the 4th of July fireworks program, the up and coming Daffodil parade, Taste of Tacoma and the Tall ships festivities etc.

    2. Not to mention groups like the United Way, Hurricane Katrina, Catholic Community Services etc.

How many times are the "other" races of people judged, ridiculed and continuously PUT DOWN?? How many times are the INDIANS praised for their GOOD deeds? The answer to that is simple. NONE!!! On both accounts.

What happen to saying THANK YOU, and you are doing a wonderful job! Why not put away the jealousy and greed for one moment and think twice before you speak harsh and negative words?!

If you don't like the smoke in the casino, don't work there, and do not go there! We all have choices, as adults, to go in the smoking section- or not. To drink and gamble, or choose to walk away. Without putting down the INDIANS once again.

I read your plan for action (on your website) - it made 100% sense. You are a wonderful communicator. I can understand your messages on many levels. Your drawing was cool - it brought it home with simplicity in a way that doesn't leave any room for misunderstanding.... A + B = C. I feel the frustration from the people that are taking a stand...and I am guessing the "Good ole boy network" is greater than anyone will ever understand - I know you know this - ANGER = FEAR. I'm wondering - are there any women in any of the POWERSEATS?

My opinion, Tribal council should only be two term max, Then let some new members have a chance on leading the tribe. Council who been in office forever seem to loose site on progress and worry about there pay checks.

I think the members should decide on our laws. The state vote every year on new laws and I think every time there is election this would be a good time to make change in our laws. Let the members vote on change. The laws and codes of the tribe are so out dated we need change.
