    "Concerned Puyallup Tribal Members" Meeting
October 20, 2005 Polish Hall (Tacoma, WA)

    Tribal Membership Meeting #2

    Seeking Solutions

For the second week in a row,  members of the Puyallup Tribe gathered to seek solutions to the long list of issues and concerns now facing them regarding their financial state and the unaccountability of their Tribal Council. Once again the meeting was held at the Polish Hall near the E.Q.C. on 30th ave. The meeting was opened with a prayer and the Power Song, offered up as a prayer song.

New comers were welcome and brought up to speed as to the going ons and offered a chance to let their own concerns be heard. Again all were reminded that we gather to seek solutions to the issues and not to air their our own personal grievences.

Again many of the issues and concerns of the members were that of violating the codes of Ethics, Conduct and Revenue. The membership was asked to start narrowing down the issues to the most hard pressed, and find a way to act on them. The topic of Recall, Referendum, and Proclomation were presented and discussed as to which one would be best to get immediate results or answers. Referendum soon lost it's backing and the focus was directed towards Recall. For a good while the thought of recalling some or all of the Tribal Council members was gaining momentum. Some of the members were reluctant to agree with a recall, some of the Elder's were concerned that as a Tribe, we would be heading in a negative direction, while other's thought that the council  deserved a chance to respond to our issues and concerns. It was agreed that a dialouge should be started before an ultimatum was issued.

It was agreed upon that it was necessary to draft a Proclomation of the most pressing issues and concerns.
Three main topics were presented and voted upon as to which would be drafted and presented for signatures of the membership.

It was unnanimous, that the members present were to bring another ten members along with them to the following meeting next Thursday, October 27th at 6:30 pm. It is crucial to pass the word of the weekly meetings and to get those other members involved with the weekly meetings.
It was brought up that, not only are the Tribal Council members responsible for what is going on, that the membership in general is also a responsible entity. There are nearly four thousand members, and so far, there has been less than two hundred in attendance at the meetings.

There is a guest book to sign on the Puyallup Tribal News website on the bottom of the Home Page, I encourage all those that read, to please sign in and leave a comment and their email address in order to gain momentum, strength, stability and to remain informed.
